We are seeking an experienced Senior Biologist to lead and contribute to biological research, development, and laboratory operations across a range of programmes. The successful candidate will design and execute scientifically robust studies, interpret complex data, and provide clear recommendations that support project objectives. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, helping to translate biological insights into practical outcomes while maintaining high standards of scientific quality, integrity, and compliance.
Key responsibilities will include developing experimental plans, selecting appropriate methodologies, and overseeing laboratory and field-based investigations as required. You will analyse, validate, and document results; prepare technical reports, study protocols, presentations, and scientific publications; and communicate findings to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. The role will also involve mentoring junior colleagues, coordinating activities across projects, contributing to resource and schedule planning, and supporting the introduction and improvement of laboratory procedures. You will be expected to identify risks, troubleshoot technical challenges, maintain accurate records, and ensure that work is conducted in accordance with relevant health, safety, quality, regulatory, and ethical requirements.
Applicants should hold a degree in biology, biological sciences, biotechnology, ecology, or a related discipline; a postgraduate qualification is desirable. Significant professional experience in a relevant laboratory, research, environmental, or applied biological setting is required, together with a strong understanding of experimental design, data analysis, and scientific documentation. Experience with relevant laboratory techniques, specialist instrumentation, statistical or bioinformatics tools, and quality systems will be advantageous. You should demonstrate sound scientific judgement, excellent problem-solving ability, and strong written and verbal communication skills. A collaborative approach, attention to detail, effective prioritisation, and the confidence to take ownership of complex work are essential.
